TRUTH!

Virginia Woolf definitely started a new way of thinking in the post-moderism era. Instead of everything having one answer for everybody, things started to have options. What was right for one person may be right or wrong for another. She couldn't find her capital "T" truths in the books of history. So she realized truth was found in each person, not in a society. Women could have been as big of a success in literature, if they had only been given the opportunity. Instead they were looked at to keep track of the kids and keep the house in order. If they had only had a room and possibility to do anything literature of the past could be completely different.

Poems, Poems, Poems

When I first read the poems I loved the poem by Phyllis Wheatley! It had a lot of amazing imagery and nifty word usage! It was so short but the point of anyone, even the minorities, can be saved and go on the angelic train was present! This was the first poem I read, so I kept thinking about it while I was reading the other ones. So I didn't really look to deep into the other ones. But when it came to talking about the other ones in class the poems "I Still Rise" and "Alone" stood out to me. They both had a cool meaning once I was actually able to analyze them. "I Still Rise" was nifty because she was so confident and just showed us that we can be strong through anything and rise above anything. Then "Alone" was good because it was definitely very true. I would never make it if I didn't have anyone in this world. I am such a people person, I need people to survive. This poem was so true and described me so well.

The Souls of Black Folk

In America we do have a lot of "clicks" that we are made of and separate us. And we all know that our past and history is a very important part of who we are today. Although because we all think we are the best and hold out only our values and ideas it separates us as a nation. Some people look down on other people because of what they look like or where they are from.
Instead of looking at all our people as Americans, they become Asian American, white Americans, African Americans, or any other race that divides us. We are a nation that often looks at what people look like instead of discovering who they are and when we do take that time do see who they really are, we have to mold them into what "America" says they have to be. So until everyone decides to let go of "it's my way or the highway" attitude, we can then learn from one another and become a truely blended nation instead of a mixture vinagar.

Okonkwo!

All the names definitely messed with me thoughout this story! I got so confused as who was who but once I could finally get all the names straight the story made a whole lot more since.
Everything that happened in this story seemed to fall apart at some point in the story. Whether it was a relationship, a person, or the whole society. It is like the world today. Nothing ever stays the same anymore. At some point society as we know it falls apart and a new one is picked for a while.
At some points I got mad at some of the peopel in the society like Okonkwo because I love the freedom to express yourself and not have to follow the crowd that someones picks for you but rather pick the direction that you want to go. I was so happy when his eldest son picked his own way instead of following what was being pushed on him. Ever person in society is different in some way and we find our own way to express it!
Almost everone in the story could be considered an outsider at some point. Again whether it was it was in their society, family, or friends! We are all on the outside at some point!

All 5!

Out of all five books I like Crickets the best. It was funny and cute to me. Just because I love kids and their unpredictability. Although I felt bad for Dad. The Ghost was my least favorite out of the five. It was just weird. Although the hidden themes were very good and made it a little better.

Diary of a Madman!

This book was crazy like most of the others. But the connection between society and book seemed a really good comparison, that I didn't pick up on til I was in class. The society around us brings everyone down and "eats them up." If you don't fit into society then you are often made fun up until you finally start acting like the world around you!

Othello

This is another sad book! I hate reading books when in the end everyone that means something dies! Of course I knew this one was coming but for some reason I still wished it ended differently. lol! Anyway, this book just shows what can happen if you believe anything you hear. Instead everyone should step back and actually think about the circumstance before they act. When they just act right away normally the action is not long after regretted. If Othello would have only stepped back and not been so hasty, then Desdemona would have been alive and they could have lived happily ever after!
